Pieced and Appliqued Baskets
1850 - 1860
Isn't this unusual? I don't think I've ever seen a basket quilt done in orange!
This is where I found it:

Blue and White Baskets1880
92 x 76
This one is just wonderful. The fabrics used are some I wish I could find in reproductions today. The quilting is amazing done on a 5/8 x 5/8 grid!
There are more pictures here and are very worth seeing:

Red Baskets and Bird1850-1875
Possibly New York or Pennsylvania
75 x 86
I've never seen a basket quilt like this. The alternate blocks make it look like a woven coverlet to me. And the solitary bird just off center - I wonder if there's a story there?

Red Baskets with Appliqué Border
Late 1800's
84 x 96
This one struck me because of the appliqué border. You'll notice that the vine is not consistent in color all the way around. Fading? In any case, it's cheerful!

The orange one is interesting, especially with the wavy stripping. Thanks for that. The blue and white one after it is just my kind of quilt. I wish I had one just like it!
ReplyDeleteI love that blue and white one, too!
