Saturday at the Quilt Museum - Lucy Boston Patchwork of the Crosses - Part 3

Here's my last offering of Lucy Boston blocks.  These Art Deco ones are stunning.  They almost make me want to make some like them!

Sunday Pics!

Apparently this is a Wisconsin family whose portrait was taken circa 1869 by a Norwegian immigrant named Andreas Larsen Dahl.

Isn't it magnificent?

Saturday at the Quilt Museum - Lucy Boston Patchwork of the Crosses - Part 1

So, I've been bitten by the "Patchwork of the Crosses" bug.  English Paper Piecing has not really appealed to me in the past.  I've done a little hexie work with the most recent Block of the Week project, but that's it.

There have been a couple of times when seeing a Lucy Boston block that I've been stopped in my tracks.  So, I'm going to indulge in sharing some of my favorites.  The ones I like best seem to fall into two main categories: 1800's Reproduction and Art Deco.  Now I'm not historically an Art Deco kind of gal, but some of these blocks are stunning!

We're going to take a few weeks and look at these gems. This week and next we'll focus on the 1800's Reproduction blocks.  I'm linking the photos to their original post if possible.

First, this is the original quilt made by Lucy Boston in the late 1950's.

These two are from contemporary quilters.
The variety is stunning.

Now for some blocks!

This photo made me laugh!  My guess is that he didn't have anything into which he could change, and grandma just went to it right there!

Saturday at the Quilt Museum - Tree of Life

This Tree of Life quilt caught my eye this week and it got me off and looking for others.  I've posted a couple of this pattern in the past.  It's timeless in its appeal!
